The Investigation of “Napoleon” Bernazard

Posted in Embarassing by Pepper Duncan

This was too easy.

“Fight Club was the beginning, now it’s moved out of the minors, it’s called Project Embarassment.”
Fight Club

Seriously, what does a guy have to do to get fired?  I think this snake Bernazard went to the same school Isiah Thomas did.  Apparently, Omar Minaya is planning to “investigate” how to get enrolled into the same school.

Once he “investigates” the investigation at the investigation, there will be another investigation pertaining to the investigation and why the investigation took 10 days to start, which will be investigated.  Got it?

Sadly, Omar Minaya would be an even worse “Dick” than he is a GM.

Oliver Perez is the Jelly of the Month

Posted in Oliver Perez, Omar Minaya by Pepper Duncan

Oliver Perez is the Mets fans equivilent to Clark W. Griswold receiving his Christmas bonus in the movie ‘Christmas Vacation’.

Clark: “It’s a one year membership in the jelly of the month club.”
Eddie: “Clark, that’s the gift that keeps on giving the whole year.”

Clark proceeded to have a mental breakdown upon receiving it and threw a tantrum.  Similarly, Oliver Perez breaks down every 5th day, causing Mets fans to throw a tantrum of their own.

“Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I’d like Omar Minaya, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where’s the Tylenol?”

I don’t know how Omar Minaya can actually sit through an in game interview with a straight face, while that scatterbrain that he signed for millions of dollars continues to give up as many walks as he makes dollars.  Omar actually sits there with a straight face.

He really is a good actor.

To Deal or Not To Deal

Posted in Omar Minaya, Roy Halladay by Pepper Duncan

Photobucket All the talk in town today is Roy, I finish my own damn games, Halladay. Since Jon Heyman reported yesterday that Omar Minaya and the Mets rejected the Blue Jays offer to trade Halladay for prospects, Mets fans have been having a collective meltdown. Who could blame them? Roy Halladay is by far the best pitcher in the American League … and you’d have to make the argument that he’d be the better ‘ace’ if he were in the same rotation with Mr. Johan Santana. Personally, I would love nothing more than to have this pair of Smokin’ Aces in the Mets rotation, and there is not much I would hold back in terms of players in a deal for Doc Halladay. After all … it’s been far too long since we’ve had a ‘Doc’ in our rotation.

Omar Minaya: This is the same guy who traded for Bartolo Colon when he was GM of the Expos. What he gave up: Lee Stevens, Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, and Brandon Phillips. What’s funny about that is at the time, people didn’t think much of Sizemore, Lee and Phillips. We all see how that turned out. That’s not to say that Halladay is a fat slob like Colon … but the similarities between the Mets prospects and the batch that went for Colon are very close. It would be scary to deal them all for a year and a half of Halladay, who frankly does not guarantee the Mets anything, since there are so many other flaws on the roster.

With that being said, we have to consider all the facts in a potential trade like this. Toronto asked for half of our farm system, which is already pretty baron at the upper levels. Fernando Martinez, Jon Neise, Bobby Parnell and Ruben Tejada. Was Omar right to reject this trade? Lets take a look.

What we know about Halladay:

• Roy Halladay is 32 years old.
• His contract is signed through 2010
• 2009 salary-14 mil … 2010 salary-15 mil
• Toronto will not allow for an extension negotiation window in the trade
• Once becoming a free agent, Halladay will command a huge contract from many suitors
• He is the best pitcher in the American League and paired with Johan Santana the Mets would have the best 1-2 punch in the game.

What we know about the Mets:

• Trading for Halladay won’t be enough to pull them out of the doldrums this season.
• The Wilpon’s have been very stingy with money since Madoff-Made off with all their loot.
• Omar Minaya has done a very bad job with the farm system, leaving the upper levels with not much depth.
• Fernando Martinez just had surgery and is out 6 weeks.
• Carlos Beltran may not be back until next year, with the possibility of missing more time if he gets microfracture surgery.
• The Mets would have the best top of the rotation in baseball next season, supported by another swiss cheese offense, unless a lot of money is spent.

Aces Damn, they look good side by side, don’t they?  Though, when considering all of this, I have to say, reluctantly, that Omar made the right decision to reject the deal. The Mets have been in a constant cycle of gutting the farm for high profile players, only to find themselves in the situation that they are in this season … an aging team with no impact players from their own farm system. Trading these 4 players for Halladay would be irresponsible for the long term. We have left the steroid era and the new trend in baseball is to emphasize your young players and develop them to keep cost down. All teams must do this, even big market ones.

Fernando Martinez is the only legit outfielder that will be major league ready in 2010 … and there are lots of whispers that Beltran may need micro fracture surgery, which could keep him out for a long time. If that is the case, with no Martinez, who plays center field next season? Angel Pagan? Jeremy Reed? Spend more cash for another player? Sure, Beltran could be fine and not miss any time next year … but the Mets can’t continue to operate with no depth at multiple positions.

I would not have a problem parting with Neise, Parnell, or Tejada for Doc Halladay. In doing so, though, you open up another hole in the bullpen that will have to be filled. They can pick up Putz’s option or spend it elsewhere in the free agent market.

Now, while I totally understand Omar rejecting this deal, a few things trouble me about the way he has done so. I also wonder if Ricciardi is trying to use the Mets, by trying to bait other teams into offering up more in terms of prospects. Here is what bugs me about Omar…

1) Where is the counter offer? Was there one made? If not … why the hell not? The Jays just offered you the best pitcher in the game, for a steep request of your prospects … and you just say no … and that’s it?! How could Omar not counter? He has to make a counter offer. He has to try to make Halladay a Met at his price. If he’s not even trying to do that … what the hell is going on?

Is money the biggest issue here? Did the Wilpon’s get so hurt by Madoff that they simply will not allow their GM to take on Halladay’s contract, with the knowledge that he will cost a lot more to keep him here long term?

Also, why the hell would Toronto want a prospect who just had surgery … and is out for at least 6 weeks? That makes entirely no sense. Something does not sit right about that. There must be more to this story.

2) I heard a sound clip of Omar commenting about this tonight on Steve Somers show, on WFAN. This is not fabricated, I heard this with my own ears. Omar was asked about rejecting the trade and stated, “I’ll say this off the record … I can’t give up all those prospects for a guy that will be here 2 months”.

Does Omar realize Halladay is signed through 2010? While I agree with him rejecting the trade, it’s very troubling to me that our GM does not know the contract status of Doc Halladay. Sometimes I wonder what planet the man is on.

In conclusion, as a Mets fan, I want Roy Halladay. If he can be gotten for the right price, it has to get done. Omar has to counter and get him. Take Fernando Martinez out of the deal and figure out a way to create a package without him in it. Get it done.

If there is no counter offer … there has to be something else going on … that something else is the Wilpon’s willingness to spend money. If they won’t spend money on Doc Halladay, then we as Mets fans have a lot more problems than what is being said on the surface. I guess what I’m saying is … I hope Omar makes a counter offer and the Mets land Halladay.

I won’t hold my breath though.

Wilpon’s Letter to Mets Fans

Posted in Fred Wilpon by Pepper Duncan

Fred Wilpon has contacted Fanfury, asking us to deliver this personal letter on his behalf, for you … the fans!

Dear Mets Fan:

All of us at the Mets are bitterly disappointed in failing to achieve our collective goal of playing meaningful games this September. The past two seasons we had great success surviving in a pennant race, right down to the last day of the season. Sure, we came up a little short and missed the playoffs two years in a row, but I sold a boatload of meaningful tickets. This year, we did not meet our organization’s expectations — or yours. Everyone at Ebbetts feels the same range of emotions as you — our loyal fans — and we know we have let you down. We wanted to thank you for your record-breaking support of our team this year. While I have provided for you a sub par product, I have continued to raise ticket prices and you fans have continued to buy them. Thank you for continuing to help replenish my losses from the Madoff scandal.

Photobucket Equally important, ownership will continue its commitment in providing the resources necessary to field a championship team. Omar will be meeting with ownership shortly to present his plan on helping the Dodgers so they can achieve our goal of winning championships in 2009 and beyond. With players like Manny Ramirez and Orlando Hudson, the Dodgers have been on a one way train to the World Series. They could not have done it without my disinterest in having these types of players on this Mets team, as well as Omar’s inept spending in the wrong area’s of the Mets organization.

Omar’s staff, which includes scouting and player development, management and coaching, and the medical staff have all contributed quite well. This New York Mets team is no match for my Dodgers and we are all doing our best to see that the Mets will not get in the Dodgers way during the playoffs. As a bonus, when the Dodgers win a championship this year, in part because of the buffoonary of the New York Mets, I am lobbying to have a parade for them that will commence inside the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. Tickets will be available for purchase on our website at a very affordable rate for millionaires and corporations.

You deserve better results, but I really don’t care about you at all, so keep taking out loans to buy more tickets. The more tickets you buy, the more I can keep helping you all “believe”.

Many thanks again for your record-breaking support.

Murphy Not in Lineup

Posted in Daniel Murphy by Pepper Duncan

I’ve had it.

What does Daniel Murphy have to do to stay in the lineup everyday? The kid is playing a solid first base and hit two doubles in last nights game. Not only that … he made this play!

Miracle Play

So as many predicted on blogs last night, after a very productive game from Murphy and possibly the Web Gem of the year, the very next day he is back on the bench. Why? So Fernando, I stopped taking my steroids again, Tatis can continue to “try to get started”. The guy has been trying to get started for a half a season now … and it’s not working.

Enough is enough with Tatis. Enough with the god damn match ups. Let Murphy play everyday already.

Jerry Manuel is a Twit.

The DTM Demon!!!

Posted in Jahnny Blaze, Mets by Jahnny Blaze

This year, more then any other year, there is evidence that there is some evil force out to get the NY Mets.

Including the horrors of the last game of the past two seasons, the Met team has an evil spirit that seems to be growing stronger this year. Outside of Omar, being Omar and standing behind his Veterans, when there was quality young talent available. Outside of the injury bug that has hit almost every member of the original starting line-up and outside of the New Ballpark turning power hitters like David Wright into singles hitters, the MLB Umpires have seemed to jump on the ‘Destroy the Mets’ bandwagon.

During last nights 5-4 Met victory, which wins in general only happen once a week these days, the Mets played solid baseball all around. They got a decent start behind Oliver Perez, yes thate Oliver Perez, who lasted 5 innings, giving up 2 runs, stricking out 2 and walking 7 in classic Perez fashion. They didn’t commit an error in a game, which also only happens once a week these days. And scored more then 2 runs.

Despite all of that, the evil ‘DTM’ (Destroy the Mets) demon, tried to take it away in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the Mets threatening, which again is a term used lightly, The Mets pinch hit for Oliver Perez with Utliliy Man Nick Evans. After an amazing battle lasting I believe 10 pitches, during a 3 Ball – 2 Strike Count, the home plate umpire called strike 3 on a pitch that was not only high, but outside. And as Evans, rightfully, started walking towards first, the realization hit him that he needed to walk toward the dugout.

Now, I know these guys aren’t perfect and I know mistakes happen, I mean when Daniel Murphy made that crazy behing the back toss to first, the runner was safe, but the pitch on Evans wasn’t even close.

We as Met Fans need to rise up to defeat the evil DTM Demon. So I emplore you. Fight on Met fans and fight well. This demon is increasing in power and we need to fight, fight, fight.

PLEASE!!!

The Work of an Ace

Posted in Mike Pelfrey by Pepper Duncan

Ace Pelf It was really nice to see someone really step up and act like an ace yesterday. Mike Pelfrey has not yet attained the “ace” status, but the performance he brought to the field yesterday was a big step toward that status. With the Mets season spiraling out of control, a day after the Mets ace Johan Santana imploded on the mound and exploded in the dugout, Mike Pelfrey pitched one of the biggest games for the Mets this season.

Pelfrey showed just what an ace is supposed to do in a time of crisis. He came out, dominated the game, pitched into the 8th without letting up a run, and most importantly … controlled his emotions, even when things started to go wrong. He didn’t let anything get to him and when adversity came about, he overcame it. Pelfrey outdueled a great young pitcher in Yovani Gallardo 1-0 in an effort to stop the Mets losing streak at 5 games.

It doesn’t get any more pressure packed than that and it was just nice to see the kid step up and show everyone how an ace should carry himself. I hope others on the team were taking notice.

Menacing Eternal Trauma Syndrome

Posted in Mets by Pepper Duncan

I’ve finally figured it all out. I figured out what METS means. Menacing Eternal Trauma Syndrome. Whether it’s the ownership of the team … the team itself … or the fanbase of the team … it all comes down to the same thing. It’s this ongoing syndrome that we are all effected by. We are menaced by this trauma day in and day out and it never ends. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, it seems, so that must be what METS stands for. Some have thought it meant My Entire Team Sucks … but that’s not it. It’s much worse than that. We have some good players. That’s the whole tease of the whole thing. It’s an illusion that simply makes us “believe”. That’s our motto right? Yeah … because it’s all part of the syndrome that traumatizes us in a menacing fashion. That is the existence of the Mets.

Wall Street
Anyone remember the movie Wall Street? Yeah … well here’s a few quotes:

“Gordon Gekko: You’re walking around blind without a cane, pal. A fool and his money are lucky enough to get together in the first place.”

That quote right there … that quote is for the owners of this “team”. The Wilpons. Perfect quote for you guys. A rich dude and his son who know jack shit about the game of baseball. A bunch of fools with money who run the team like they are walking around blind without a cane … and first place only comes to those who are lucky … only these fools with money have only bad luck. Maybe one day these clowns will sell the team. Maybe one day real baseball people will run the Mets and they’ll be legit. Maybe one day we won’t be the laughing stock of baseball.

“Gordon Gekko: Fox, where the hell are you? I am losing MILLIONS! You got me into this airline and you sure as hell better get me out or the only job you’ll ever have on the Street is SWEEPING IT! You hear me, Fox?
Bud Fox: You once told me, don’t get emotional about stock. Don’t! The bid is 16 1/2 and going down. As your broker, I advise you to take it.
Gordon Gekko: Yeah. Well you TAKE IT!
[shouts]
Gordon Gekko: *Right in the ass you fucking scumbag cocksucker!*
Bud Fox: It’s two minutes to closing, Gordon. What do you want to do? Decide.
Gordon Gekko: [calms down] Dump it.”

That string of quotes there … that is what the Mets should do with this season. Dump it. It’s already turned to shit with the apparent voodoo curse that has been placed squarely on the bruised asses of this team and it’s fan base. Half the team is gone with injuries and the Bad News Bears have taken over. If you have a pile of shit, the best thing to do is flush it. No one likes to find a bunch of shit sitting around in their toilet. The stench in Flushing is just too much to handle. Do us all a favor and flush this team. It’s time to wave the white flag.

White Flag

All I hear about lately is how the Mets need to make a trade. We need a big bat, we need this, we need that. The only trades the Mets should be making is unloading some of the petrified donkey dung that is clogging up this roster. This team needs a freakin’ enema. If any trades are made … it should be to unload guys like Luis Castillo, Brian Schneider, Oliver Perez, Tim Redding, etc. etc. etc. Unfortunately, no one wants any of our overpriced manure. You get the idea though … the only trades I want to hear about are ones like this. Unload the crap and freshen up this miserable pigpen.

Making a trade for a “big bat”, at this point, would be totally asinine. I keep hearing fans calling up the radio stating that the Mets need to trade for a big bat. Ok … so lets go ahead and trade away more of the farm for a rental like Matt Holliday, who will be here for 3 months, and basically do nothing to help this team. What is Matt Holliday going to do for a team who has 4 other holes that can’t be fixed? Here’s a better idea … Make a trade for Adam Dunn. Lets give up top prospects for this guy. He was a free agent and the Mets didn’t want to spend the money on him last winter. The logical thing to do would be to not sign Adam Dunn when he was a free agent, let him sign elsewhere, panic and give up the farm for him 3 months later. That is the definition of stupidity.

Enough with this garbage. There is not one trade that miraculously makes this team play fundamentally sound. One big bat doesn’t make guys stop dropping balls and it doesn’t make the manager smarter and it sure doesn’t make the GM manage a roster correctly. One trade also doesn’t help the owners of this team get a fucking clue.

The only trades that help is to get rid of the garbage and stop mortgaging the future of this team. Mets fans … Just accept it. Wave the white flag.

Oh and one other thing. Mr. Johan Santana … can you please shut the hell up? You acted like a fucking child on the field tonight. The kid is 20 years old and you’re the fucking ace. Don’t walk the pitcher on 4 pitches and throw a temper tantrum. Act like a fucking ace and pick him up, and shut your damn mouth.

I’ve fucking had it.

Stick with the Kids.

Young players need to play as much as possible. They need to be in the lineup day in and day out. Consistency is the key. In order for a player to be productive, he must be consistent, and putting a player in the lineup consistently gives that young player the best chance to become consistent. Got it? Good.

With the Mets roster looking more like a Mash unit, the best thing to do is use the younger players as much as possible. Yes, there will be slumps, but slumps can be broken. There are three words that are required for young players in a hitting slump. Patience, Patience, Patience. The Manager needs to be patient and the fans, especially, need to be patient.

The one thing Jerry Manuel has done this season with his lineup’s is that he has been very inconsistent. Jerry’s lineup cards have been like Forest Gump’s box of chocolates … you never know what you’re going to get. This is not good for a player like Daniel Murphy, who has been platooned with Fernando Tatis since Carlos Delgado’s hip went awol. Murphy has had games where he’s hit well, only to be sat the next day, because of a lefty righty matchup. This can’t go on. Fernando Tatis should stay on the bench and Murphy should be given the opportunity, right now, to play every day. He’s in an adjustment period and he needs to work through that. The past few games he’s been hitting the ball hard, and last night Murphy had 3 hits.

Now, i don’t care who the hell is pitching today. I don’t care if it’s a lefty … a righty … if he’s ambidextrous … or if he pitches with his damn feet. Daniel Murphy needs to be in the lineup again tomorrow, no matter what. If Jerry Manuel takes him out tomorrow, I’m going to scream.

Fernando Martinez also needs to be in there everyday. Jerry’s been trucking him out there, which is good, and he’s starting to swing a little better. He had a hard hit double last night and for some reason he was pinch hit for in his next at bat. Tatis did the pinch hitting duty and conveniently rolled into a double play to end the inning, and the rally. This also has to stop. Leave the kid in there and lets see what he can do, while we have the opportunity. We know what Tatis is … and this season … he hasn’t been much. Let Martinez play and let him finish the games.

Same goes for Bobby Parnell. He’s been really good this season, Putz goes down, Parnell starts pitching the 8th inning. He had a couple of bad outings lately … hit a little slump … and all of a sudden he’s coming into the 6th inning again. Not only that … he gets lifted when he’s pitching well last night. There is no consistency in the lineup or in the bullpen.

Jerry needs to set some roles and stick with them, and stop acting like a flighty teenager who can’t make up his mind about who he wants to take to the prom. Be consistent Jerry … start the kids and most of all …

Let them finish.
