This Fan is FURIOUS!! The Media & D.Wright

I would like to apologize in advance for the following post, that will soon be preceded by some cursing, for the first time, and BOLD statements said about the NY Media and media in general.

I attended Wednesday Night’s game when the Mets hosted the Nationals. The game was filled with oddities, including the Murphy HR, which by the way I think it was a homer Pepper. But one thing that seemed clear was David Wright, after his first at bat, over swinging and looking badly at the plate.

I IN NO WAY BLAME WRIGHT FOR THIS. It is the STUPID media and their relentless attack of the dumbest god damn things!!!

Wright has been hitting better by shortening his swing and not trying to be a bona fide home run hitter. And the result was that he was hitting ALL THE TIME. With runners in scoring position, leading off an inning, almost every time he stepped to the plate.

Then the dumb ass media crept into his head by printing garbage like “Wright is still not hitting for power” & “What’s wrong with Wright”. Answer: Nothing is wrong with David Wright. He now plays in a MONSTROUS Citi Field and was finding other ways to produce. But because the dumb ass media is NEVER FUCKING HAPPY, they asked him for more.

Now the result may turn into him swinging for the fences every at bat and striking out like earlier in the season… so I ask you this. Were you happier when that was happening?

Let me hear a HELL NO!!!!

  2. Yo Blaze, I agree that the media definitely writes shit just for the sake of writing, and creates “false facts” a lot of the time.

David Wright has been hitting very well, and yes, I’m very happy with his approach at the plate as of late. It seems he’s been trying to level out his swing and has been focusing on hitting the ball the other way a little more. Still not enough … but he’s been better than early April when trying to pull everything.

Wright is hitting .404 with 2 homers in May while he hit .280 with 1 homer in April. He’s hitting .500 vs. left handed pitchers while hitting .315 vs. righties.

Now, here is a more interesting stat: At home he is hitting .287 with 2 homers while hitting .400 with 1 home run on the road.

Now that brings me to this; I can’t totally agree with you that the media is doing such a horrible job in this case. Ok, so they pointed out that his power is down. What’s really the problem with stating the obvious here?

If you really look at the stats and break them down, you’ll see that using Citi Field as an excuse for Wright’s power outage really holds no water. Of the 3 dingers that Wright has … 2 of them came at Citi Field this year. I thought maybe his triples went up as a result of the big park … but that’s not the case either.

In comparison to last season … Wright hit 4 homers in April and another 7 in May.

Point here is that Wright’s power outage is a concern and the new park is not the cause of it. The media simply stated a fact … they did nothing wrong here by bringing up the fact that David is not hitting for any power.

I mean … Daniel Murphy has more homers than Wright … go figure that one out. I don’t think this is a trend that will continue … I’m confident that Wright will start putting up more power numbers as the season goes on, just as long as he continues along with the approach that he’s been going with the past month or so.

I understand what your saying, but it just seems even was he was doing better, it was never enough. and if you told me today that if he continued, Wright would end up with a .380 AVG and less then 20 HRs and less then 150 K’s or a .280 AVG, 30 + HR’s and over 150 K’s, which would you want.

The point is WHO cares about his “Power Outage” as long as his performance is there he doesn’t have to ever hit a HR as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t mind if his home run totals go down a bit … but saying that you’d be fine if he doesn’t ever hit a home run is crazy talk.

He’s a middle of the lineup guy and his job is to hit for power. When he doesn’t hit for power, the media has every right to write a story about it. That’s the point I was making. They are not wrong here. It’s a legitimate story.

I will say you make a valid point compairing Murphy to Wright. I just dont care about his HR total as long as he’s driving in runs and doing the things he’s supposed to do, like he has been before all the “Talk”

The Mets as a team are down with power numbers as a whole. Now, I didn’t look at each player to see if it’s the park that is causing this … but in David Wright’s case, the stats say that it has nothing to do with Citi Field.

Look around the league … guys like Jason Varitek would be leading the team in home runs if he were on the Mets.

David Wright is part of the story … the bigger question is, why is the power down as a whole for the team?
