This year, more then any other year, there is evidence that there is some evil force out to get the NY Mets.
Including the horrors of the last game of the past two seasons, the Met team has an evil spirit that seems to be growing stronger this year. Outside of Omar, being Omar and standing behind his Veterans, when there was quality young talent available. Outside of the injury bug that has hit almost every member of the original starting line-up and outside of the New Ballpark turning power hitters like David Wright into singles hitters, the MLB Umpires have seemed to jump on the ‘Destroy the Mets’ bandwagon.
During last nights 5-4 Met victory, which wins in general only happen once a week these days, the Mets played solid baseball all around. They got a decent start behind Oliver Perez, yes thate Oliver Perez, who lasted 5 innings, giving up 2 runs, stricking out 2 and walking 7 in classic Perez fashion. They didn’t commit an error in a game, which also only happens once a week these days. And scored more then 2 runs.
Despite all of that, the evil ‘DTM’ (Destroy the Mets) demon, tried to take it away in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the Mets threatening, which again is a term used lightly, The Mets pinch hit for Oliver Perez with Utliliy Man Nick Evans. After an amazing battle lasting I believe 10 pitches, during a 3 Ball – 2 Strike Count, the home plate umpire called strike 3 on a pitch that was not only high, but outside. And as Evans, rightfully, started walking towards first, the realization hit him that he needed to walk toward the dugout.
Now, I know these guys aren’t perfect and I know mistakes happen, I mean when Daniel Murphy made that crazy behing the back toss to first, the runner was safe, but the pitch on Evans wasn’t even close.
We as Met Fans need to rise up to defeat the evil DTM Demon. So I emplore you. Fight on Met fans and fight well. This demon is increasing in power and we need to fight, fight, fight.
PLEASE!!!

1 CommentI would like to apologize in advance for the following post, that will soon be preceded by some cursing, for the first time, and BOLD statements said about the NY Media and media in general.
I attended Wednesday Night’s game when the Mets hosted the Nationals. The game was filled with oddities, including the Murphy HR, which by the way I think it was a homer Pepper. But one thing that seemed clear was David Wright, after his first at bat, over swinging and looking badly at the plate.
I IN NO WAY BLAME WRIGHT FOR THIS. It is the STUPID media and their relentless attack of the dumbest god damn things!!!
Wright has been hitting better by shortening his swing and not trying to be a bona fide home run hitter. And the result was that he was hitting ALL THE TIME. With runners in scoring position, leading off an inning, almost every time he stepped to the plate.
Then the dumb ass media crept into his head by printing garbage like “Wright is still not hitting for power” & “What’s wrong with Wright”. Answer: Nothing is wrong with David Wright. He now plays in a MONSTROUS Citi Field and was finding other ways to produce. But because the dumb ass media is NEVER FUCKING HAPPY, they asked him for more.
Now the result may turn into him swinging for the fences every at bat and striking out like earlier in the season… so I ask you this. Were you happier when that was happening?
Let me hear a HELL NO!!!!

6 CommentsOn the verge of 4 game series sweep, the NY Mets suffered a 2-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants and this one hurt.
Mike Pelfrey had another strong outing for the Mets, but for the second straight time received the loss due to an underwhelming offensive performance. They did face a good pitcher in Matt Cain, but they had him on the ropes in the Second Inning and didn’t cash in.
After Pelfrey gave up a run in the first the Mets were primed and ready to quickly strike back in the second with no one out and the bases loaded, when Part timer Jeremy Reed stepped to the plate and grounded in to a 3-2-3 double play. Pelfrey then came to the plate and made the last out of the inning to end the threat.
Later in the game, Daniel Murphy was taken out of the game with the bases loaded and one out in favor of speedy outfielder Angel Pagan, who also hit into a double play to end the inning.
The second double play wasn’t nearly as painful as the first one for obvious reasons, because after that early inning threat, Matt Cain was still having control issues, but got into a groove against the Met hitters and kept them scoreless threw 6 innings of work.
The Mets have been fighting and battling in every game for the past week or so, and I hope last nights effort, or lack there of, was due to good pitching over the lackadaisical effort the Mets have shown in the past.
With a 3 game series starting tonight against a, struggling, Manny-less, Dodger team, I guess we will see.

7 CommentsOn April 24th I wrote an article suggesting the possibility of Mets Manager, Jerry Manuel, getting fired for the team not performing well.
Since then, the NY Mets have gone 11- 4 with 7 Wins in a row, find themselves in first place in the division and if this pace continues, the new discussion will be how long will they have to extend Manuel’s contract to?
Jerry Manuel sets himself so far from his replacement Willie Randolph with so many things. The way he speaks to the Media, his understanding of his bullpen and his protection of his players. Protecting his players has come to be the most important of his differences. When his players are underperforming he seems to be able to give them confidence and bounce back, he has handled the Gary Sheffield situation VERY WELL and he is willing, which Willie wasn’t, to get thrown out of a game if it deems necessary (The Met-Philly game on May 7th).
Tonight’s match-up will tell a lot about the 2009 Mets, as they face Atlanta Ace, Derek Lowe. This game is that much more important since the Mets decided on passing up on Lowe for, now injured, Oliver Perez. Luckily for the Mets their Superman, Johan Santana is on the mound. As history shows the Met offense has been quiet in Santana outings and this game looms to be much of the same.
Or maybe the Mets can protect themselves and their ace by producing early and often as they have recently.
We will see.

No CommentsAfter last nights victory, the Mets lead the season series against the Phillies two games to one. This is largely due to yet another dominating performance by Johan Santana.
The game surprisingly turned out to be a pitchers duel with Johan Santana on the mound for the Mets and Chan Ho Park for the Phillies. Pitching so dominantly is no surprise for Santana, but Park, who was knocked around by the Mets on Friday, had a no-hitter threw 4 2/3 innings and almost spoiled yet another stellar performance by Santana.
In 6 starts, Johan only has 4 earned runs against him. His current ERA is lower the 1.00 and has a margin of victory of slightly over 1 run per game, meaning he is pitching his heart out every start and the offense is going to sleep with him on the mound. Hopefully his next 6 start will go the same for him and better for the offense, because if it wasn’t for an in-field hit and an error, Santana probably would not have gotten the win.
Santana has been saying and doing all the right things so far, but the performance of the rest of the team when he pitches has to be driving him crazy. If he can’t get a convincing victory over Chan Ho Park of all people, when will he? Having that stress could be cause for problem later in the season. After all, you want your ace to have a couple of comfortable outings.
As for tonight’s game, Mike Pelfrey is on the mound for the Mets and Jaime Moyer for the Phillies. It should bode well for him considering the current weather conditions. Lets just hope the Met offense can protect him a bit with some solid offensive play. As we all now these one run games are always heart wrenching for us Met Fans.
I don’t know about you, but I for one am tired of always hoping the other shoe doesn’t fall. Together, lets all hope it doesn’t.

No CommentsDuring yesterdays 6-4 victory, John Maine struggled with his command. But he fought hard, showed a lot of backbone and earned respect from his team.
Since Maine was a rookie, I have been a BIG fan of his. I could tell that no matter how well or poorly he did he was going to be a special pitcher. Before his injury he had flashes of greatness and also some flashes of inconsistency. Lots of “Baseball People” questioned if Maine would always be the type of pitcher that over thought every pitch and be affected by the result. After the injury the same people questioned his ability to come back from such a big set back. And although he has been slightly inconsistent this year, I believe yesterday answered all of those questions.
Bottom line is John Maine is the type of pitcher that will throw until his arm fell off if you asked him to. He has heart, passion and more emotion then most or maybe all of his peers. His desire does make him “Something Special”. Yesterday’s game is evident that John Maine is a fighter. He never makes excuses, is always looking at what he could have done better and has always challenged himself to improve.
Met fans can be proud of the pitcher he is and can be sure that barring another set back (injury) that we will admire what he will become in the future.
Haven’t we come a long way from selfish pitchers like Mike Hampton and Tom Glavine.
What a relief!!

No CommentsThe 2008 World Champs are getting ready for their first challenge against their bitter rivals as they host the NY Mets. With neither team playing exceptionally well, we will see when the blood boiling hatred for each other will take place.
One thing is for sure, at the end of this three game series you would expect for it to be a wake up call for the team who comes out on top.
With the Phillies standing at 11-9 and playing better as of late they seem primed and ready to face the challenge. The Mets, on the other hand, are 3 games under .500 at 9-12, and coming off of two straight late game bullpen blowing losses. On top of it all, the Phillies will not have to face Johan Santana. Instead they will see, Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez & John Maine who will be facing off against Chan Ho Park, Jamie Moyer & Joe Blanton, respectively.
Of course the Mets & their fans want to win all three games, but the one game that is obviously drawing the most attention is Saturday afternoon’s match-up of Oliver Perez vs. Jamie Moyer. Not so much because, with all due respect, of Jamie Moyer, but because this is supposed to be the game & situation where Perez is going to “Show Up”. Staking his claim and more so his contract on being a “Big Game Pitcher,” if Perez implodes again on Saturday the Mets may be in serious trouble for the rest of the season. This series is being billed to be chock full of tension and drama, Met fans, including myself, can’t help to add fear to the billing, scared of what we will get from Ollie.
Game one of the series takes place tonight at 7:10 PM with the first pitch to take place shortly thereafter. With Mike Pelfrey on the mound and coming off a strong performance against the Washington Nationals, I hope he continues to improve. If Big Pelf and Maine pitch well and give the team a chance to win, I could care less what Ollie does.
Ok that’s a LIE, I’m worried.

No CommentsThe Mets beat the Florida Marlins tonight by a score of 8-1 and played a complete, solid game for one of very few times in this early season.
Hopefully there is a carry over effect from a solid weekend of baseball, outside of course of the Oliver Perez outing on Sunday, and the team can continue to play solid Defensively & Offensively.
Tonight’s Winner’s
John Maine, Omir Santos, David Wright, Cody Ross
• John Maine pitch lights out baseball tonight. He strikes to walks ratio was great and his control was spotty early, but right on point late.
• Omir Santos may have put himself in the middle of a Catchers controversy with his early success and the fact that his career first major league home run was a grand slam to cap a 6 run first.
• David Wright has not looked good recently, but after Jerry Manuel showed confidence saying “He’s close to breaking out of it,” partnerred with his extra work with Howard Johnson and his confidence in the field, he had a very solid night all around.
• Cody Ross on the losing side of tonights game made a amazing catch on Gary Sheffield’s shot right over his head as he made a Willie Mays-esque play and then he almost did the same on David Wright’s shot only being stopped by the center field wall.
Tonight’s Loser’s
Anibal Sanchez, Dan Uggla, Gary Sheffield
• Anibal Sanchez is very well known buy Met fans for dominating them just last season and the Mets were able to kill those demons quikly by putting up a 6 spot in the first.
• Dan Uggla went 0 – 4 with 2 strikeouts and left 4 men on base and remember fans, he was the starting second basemen in the All-Star game last year. With his shaky defense he better hopes he starts hitting again.
• Gary Sheffield is hitting .154 and dropped a routine fly ball that Daniel Murphy could have caught with his eyes closed. He is swinging the bat better, but with the limited time he will be getting I wonder how long his attitude stays positive.
Final Thoughts
Tonight’s game is representative of the expectations Met fans have and my only hope is that they can continue to play with pride and passion and keep winning games. The upside of tonight’s game was due to a gritty, dominating performance from John Maine, hopefully showing Met fans what he can do through out the year. The unfortunate downfall is that the Mets are not releasing any information about an apparent injury to Carlos Delgado and Luis Castillo was hurt today….. Ooohhh Nooo. We now have to hold our breath and hope it is minor for both players. Just when we get up, they drag us back down.

No CommentsNow standing at 6-9 and being protected from the cellar by a terrible Washington team, the Mets look anything but Amazing.
Yesterday’s 12-8 defeat by the Cardinals, capped the first sweep and has pushed the losing streak to 4 in a row. Early on in the season like it is, you would like to see a glimmer of hope or point to something, anything positive but unfortunately for this team, it seams very difficult, perhaps impossible.
Now Met fans have to hold their breath and hope that their ace can bring them back from the dead. In his 3 starts the Met offense has scored 4 runs for Santana, forcing him to throw a gem every time he pitches. Now they are asking for another miracle to break this streak and get a much needed win. The sad thing is they probably will get a great game from Santana and hopefully they will win and then the problems will start again. Mike Pelfrey will be getting the start on Saturday and if by chance they don’t get the win tonight, the weekend may very well fall on the enigmatic Oliver Perez.
Also, remember this Met fans, when Willie Randolph was fired last year, the Mets were 20 – 24. How much time is left before Jerry Manuel gets the shaft?
If, or maybe I should say when the Mets are forced to “Do something” and fire Jerry Manuel, it’ll be just yet another poor attempt at putting a band-aid over a largely infected unbearably hideous wound.
